Week 3: Trigger St | Blog Discussion

Triggerstreet can offer new script writers an avenue to expose their scripts, their ideas and ultimately, themselves. The website itself promotes the notion that it is a very democratic community where participants can receive Feedback, enlist Exposure and receive new Opportunity.

One of the benefits of using a website to gather criticism and suggestions (a commonality with all online communities, not just those script writing related) is that any discussion can potentially spread to the right person. Getting your script into the right hands may be a difficult task, one which independent screen writers may lack experience with. This purpose-built community can assist in this area.

Unlike analog video production, where costs are high, shareholder involvment is intense and techniques are limited, digital video production is dramatically cheaper, more independent and now a lot easier to edit in post production. As a digital video producer, the website will offer the necessary feedback, tips and guidelines to begin most productions.

Week 3: Digital Storytelling | Blog Discussion

The blairwitch.com website and Alternate Reality Game (ARG) act, not just as a supplementary marketing tool to the website, but as a vessel for further understanding this new 'universe'. The game/website/media developers have produced a highly interactive storytelling model whereby the user has an off-the-rails experience with a multitude of possibilities.

The website continues on (or perhaps started before) with the dark and mysterious tone of the 1999 feature film, but now puts the participant in the drivers seat. Surely the implementation and cross-platform integration of Digital Video, Digital Video Recorders and Digital Video Editing suites made this process not just a faster process, but largely a lot more cost efficient.

Taking this into consideration, we can quite confidently say that much of the success of the films and the ongoing cult following can largely be attributed to the cost effective filming techniques.

Understanding of Digital Video

I understand Digital Video to be two things, one is a medium and the other is a processing technique. Digital Video now means that videos in raw format can now be distributed in a Digital format meaning they're highly accessible through the Internet - a medium that was previously not invented. The resulting format means that the end user (for e.g. Youtube viewer) can now access motion picture in a format best suited for their user environment (e.g. Youtube can provide a link to lower resolution/higher resolution video depending on the speed of that users internet connection).

The other definition now means that video footage can be created using artificial techniques that were previously unachievable. Where film makers of yesteryear' had to rely on manual special effect techniques, Digital Video now means that the ridiculous, unbelievable and exagerated can all be created to a new extreme - for example the famous The Lord of the Rings battle scenes that depict tens of thousands of mutant warrior going to war.
